Our practice is inherently multi-disciplinary, so we lend a broad range of expertise to projects in many different ways. Here are some of the things that we do:
59 often provides a multi-disciplinary team of artists, technologists and other creatives to develop story-telling experiences in a range of locations and mediums. Providing creative direction to those teams ensures that even the biggest and most complex projects are coherent and compelling.
59’s work has a strong emotional arc that takes an audience on a journey through an experience. This is achieved through expert design and propelled by narrative. Our storytelling expertise means the experiential impact of our work is both significant and memorable.
Whether helping to shape the narrative of an exhibition design, or working with architects and developers, we provide consultancy services to help weave storytelling through physical spaces. Skills in writing, dramaturgy and design come together to help generate story-telling concepts for a broad range of projects.
Our team of architects, architectural designers and set designers create physical designs for a range of projects. From exhibitions to immersive spaces; from theatrical sets to performance architecture to sculptural designs in the public realm – our team’s expertise is deployed in a range of real-world environments.
For over 20 years, 59 has been creating video design for a range of cultural projects. Bringing together film-making, animation, and motion graphic design, we find creative ways to integrate digital work into physical spaces – whether on stage, in large-scale projection-mapping projects or in museums and galleries.
59 has always considered the ‘how’ alongside the ‘what’ in conceiving of ambitious creative projects. Our technical team provides systems designs across multiple platforms to bring our ideas to life.
59 creates both digital material as well as technical design for interactive installations in a range of cultural venues including museums, galleries and concert halls. We also have extensive experience of creating VR, AR and XR projects, distributed both online and through location-based experiences.
Many of our public-facing cultural projects integrate dynamic lighting design into built environments and live performances. Our in-house lighting design work is often closely interwoven with physical and digitally displayed elements.
Our design approach is accelerated through the impact of sound design and music. These are key tools for shaping how an audience travel through an experience and are guided on a journey.
When creating large-scale public projects, 59 is often called upon to oversee all elements of a production, from logistics, to install, to technical delivery to site management. Whilst we don’t provide these services for projects other than those which we are designing, our team can provide support in a range of roles to help make ambitious projects possible.
