Lysander Ashton graduated from Bristol University with a First Class degree in Physics in 2004.
He took an abrupt change of direction and headed into film and video production. He produced short films, music promos and documentaries including for Channel 4 and the UK Film Council (may it rest in peace).
He was approached by Fifty Nine to work on a show with one real actor and a large cast of cartoons. The show was “Alex” and from then on Lysander was hooked on this new use of video technologies. He has since worked as an associate for Fifty Nine Productions on shows including “War Horse”, “Request Programme”, “The Metropolitan Opera’s 125th Gala”, “Al Gran Sole Carico d’Amore”, “…some trace of her”, “Dr Atomic”, “Riders to the Sea”, “Dorian Gray”, “Time and the Conways” and “The Minotaur”.
In early 2009 Lysander was invited to become a director of Fifty Nine Productions and has since taken a key design role on shows including ““Mother Courage and Her Children”, “Panic”, ““Messiah”, “Thyestes”, and Jonsi’s “Go”.
He maintains an interest in physics and is leading 59’s research into new technologies including animatronics and robotics.
