Technical INTERN

59 productions is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join our popular internship scheme. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high level of technical ability and a real passion for pursuing a career in this sector.

Salary band A: £17,850 pa pro rata

Line Manages: n/a

Works with: Technical Associate, wider 59 team

This internship will be for a period of three calendar months, 5 days per week with a pro rata holiday allowance.

We work with some of the most highly regarded organisations in the world including the V&A, National Theatre, Edinburgh International Festival, Metropolitan Opera, Historical Royal Palaces and Metropolitan Museum of Art to produce work that constantly pushes the boundaries of innovation and creativity.

Overall purpose of the job:

To gain professional technical experience within a creative environment whilst assisting the technical, creative and wider 59 team in the preparation and realisation of all 59 projects and company activities. To work as a cohesive member of the team and provide support and facilitation across a range of projects and company tasks as required.

Day to day responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Assisting in the technical set up of projects
  • Assisting with on site work as necessary
  • Assisting in the production of technical specifications and costings
  • Drafting
  • Producing schematics
  • Contacting suppliers
  • Undertaking general IT setups and maintenance for 59
  • Logistics: arranging delivery and collection of equipment, making rental bookings etc.
  • Administration and documentation as required
  • General office assistance as required

Training opportunities will include:

  • Access to range of software, equipment and tutorials
  • Mentoring from 59’s Technical Associate
  • One to one sessions with senior 59 staff
  • Insight into company technical management
  • Opportunity to experience and participate in on-site technical work
  • Creating and contributing to a wide range of exciting projects 



  • Wide ranging technical knowledge of computer and video systems
  • Interest, experience and knowledge of applying technology to theatrical / arts projects
  • Experience working on live events in a technical capacity
  • Organized, hard-working and able to meet deadlines
  • Understanding of Macintosh and Windows computer systems
  • Basic understanding of networks and networking
  • Experience with CAD Software (AutoCAD or Vectorworks)
  • Ability to assist the 59 team in technical queries and requests
  • Ability to multitask effectively and handle multiple workflows at any one time
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team


  • Understanding and experience of programming lighting desks or media servers
  • Knowledge of 3D workflow and 3D software (e.g. Rhino, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, V-Ray)
  • Understanding or experience working with Creative video software, e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max
  • Knowledge of video server software
  • Experience with FileMaker Pro
