OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
We are looking for an experienced Design Manager to join 59 and play a key role in delivering the company’s ambitious design portfolio. The role will deliver expert design coordination across a number of large scale and global projects. Working within 59’s Design team, the Design Manager will help make our design concepts a reality through delivering expert design packages across a variety of projects. They will deliver clear strategic plans for how a design approach will be executed, considering the various needs of projects, including scope management, design workflow and project milestones and deadlines. This role will work across our interdisciplinary design department, coordinating a range of disciplines including architecture and spatial design, video design and animation and technical design. Experience of a variety of design approaches is essential to the success of this role.
The Design Manager will collaborate with our project teams including Project Directors, Design Leads, Designers, Producers and the Head of Studio. They will have strong experience managing and leading others through ever-changing circumstances and a demonstrable track record of agility and responding to change.
This role is suited to experienced Design Managers and Project Architects who are motivated by managing complex design processes, in partnership with high level stakeholders and partners.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
- Approximately 5 years experience of Design Management delivery
- Specific education, training or equivalent industry experience in engineering and/or architectural or spatial design
- Demonstrable experience with complex design coordination, and a track record delivering design processes to a deadline
- Demonstrable experience managing design workflow across multiple stakeholders, including clients and project collaborators
- Demonstrable experience leading feasibility studies and defining project scope, ensuring design concepts are viable
- Demonstrable experience managing and resolving multiple priorities and distilling focus
- Excellent communication skills, with experience gathering and disseminating project knowledge across projects teams as appropriate
- A track record of fostering good relationships with a range of people and across a diversity of disciplines
- The ability to multitask effectively and handle multiple workflows at any one time
- Expert administration and organisation skills
- Experience working in global contexts beyond the UK
- Experience working on design coordination for pavilions, installations and place-making projects
- An understanding of design specific software, including but not limited to Vectorworks and AutoCAD, amongst other tools
Desirable:
- Experience with BIM
- Experience of technical design and/or a knowledge of these elements, including audio visual and projection
- Experience working in the Middle East and Far East territories
- Experience with Communications and sharing the narrative of a piece of work publicly
