UK Tour, October 2013
War Horse premiered at the National Theatre in November 2007. After two sold-out runs, it moved to London's West End in March 2009 where it continues to play to capacity houses at the New London Theatre. Since opening at the Lincoln Center Theatre, New York, it has broken box office records and has won numerous awards, including 5 Tonys. It opens in Toronto in March, will tour the United States from summer 2012 and Australia and New Zealand from January 2013.
War Horse is a magnificent drama, filled with stirring music and beautiful songs. But it is more than just a compelling tale. This is a show of indescribable grandeur and sheer inventiveness - perhaps the most magical production ever staged for the Beaumont. There are breathing, galloping, charging horses on the stage - their flanks, hides and sinews built of steel, leather and aircraft cables. They are life-size puppets strong enough for men to ride. And that's just one element of this imaginative epic:
"Now and then the theatre throws up a piece of work so exhilarating that it makes you rejoice to be alive. WAR HORSE is just such an occasion... A sweeping drama of extraordinary power. Its sheer skill and invention are simply awe-inspiring."
The Times of London
"Straight after coming home from seeing WAR HORSE, I went online to book tickets to see it again. It is an extraordinary piece of theater that is at once both epic and intimate, absolutely guaranteed to move the heart. Everything about the production has an engrossing magnificence. A show for all ages and all time."
