DVD, 19th November 2012
59 Productions were the designers for all video content seen throughout the stadium during the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. This commemorative DVD (which also includes coverage of the Closing Ceremony) is a full record of the spectacular event, and as well as behind-the-scenes footage and a revealing commentary from director Danny Boyle, it also includes an extensive 8-minute special feature created by 59 Productions.
The giant house which appeared in the centre of the stadium during "Thanks Tim", the section of the show celebrating the legacy of Sir Tim Berner's Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, carried non-stop mapped projection charting the recent history of British popular culture, taking in music, television, film, sport and more. The complexity of the sequence was only witnessed by those in the stadium on the night, and so Boyle asked 59 to prepare a new version of this sequence specially for the DVD, which viewers can watch alongside the ceremony.
