ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The Royal Ballet's long-running production of Bayadere has - for decades - featured a moment which recreates the "special-effect" of a rockfall inside a Buddhist temple.

Following a series of successful collaborations between the company and the Royal Ballet, artistic director Kevin O'Hare approached 59 to explore possible ways to improve and update this effect. Using a combination of mapped video projection and a second layer of projection onto a concealed gauze, the team built a new and improved illusion, adding dramatic weight to a key moment in this iconic ballet.
