Joseph Pierce is an award winning animator and filmmaker. On graduating from the National Film and Television School in 2008, he was named one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow. His graduation film Stand Up was screened at over 30 International film festivals, winning major prizes in France, UK, Spain and Poland.
His 2010 Channel 4 commissioned short A Family Portrait (produced by 59) screened in over 35 festivals, winning multiple awards including Best Animation at Bristol Encounters, Best Debut at Hiroshima, the Grand Prize at Stuttgart Trickfest and was nominated for a Cartoon D'or.
His subsequent animation work spans film, documentary, online content, art installation and music promos with clients including BBC Comedy, BBC Films, Film4 and Atlantic Records.
His latest short in collaboration with 59 The Pub won multiple awards including the top prize at Raindance, LA Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival. It screened at over 40 festivals worldwide.
Aside from his short film work he has collaborated with 59 Productions on various projects, including Doctor Atomic at the Met Opera New York, Danny Boyle's Olympic Opening Ceremony and The Perfect American, a new Opera Philip Glass.
He is currently developing his first feature animation with 59 Productions and Cuba Films.
